Background
I've been in IT for over 4 years now and playing around with linux just over two of those. Ive recently been getting a little more serious about my training as I reported in my entry about my Preplogic training purchase. And while I want to claim that I fight the good fight the reality is that my tiny company is still primarily windows based despite efforts to bring them over to linux.

Linux in a Nutshell review

Users of free Unixes won't agree with the title of Linux in a Nutshell. The fact is much of the book is actually focused on GNU or BSD utilities and not specifically Linux. The book begins with just over 100 pages of general user commands. Next you get info on bash and csh/tcsh, on emacs and vi/ex, on sed and gawk, and on gcc, gdb, and the like. This is the quote I was told earlier this week by a colleague. "Linux is a lost cause."

HAS LINUX LIVED UP TO ITS PROMISE?

I don't for a second agree that Linux is truly lost but I do certainly agree with my friend and colleague that the promise Linux fortune tellers made has not come to pass.
