All day today I've had to Verify my Humanity before connecting to LQ, and most of the time the connection timed out according to cloudflare.com. I was just now able to connect and it took minutes to get to My Threads, and as long to get to this Bug Report forum. Something is up.
Clownflair is reporting it as one of several (in turn it seems) host error at LQ. I have seen 505 (host not responding) and 525 (SSL error), but I do not trust them. I have seen CF throw such errors when the host node was just fine.
It depends. Yesterday it was very slow. For example even I verified I'm human, it sits there loading but nothing comes out until I wait for like many seconds, probably 5, even 10+, for a reload to work. And probably depend on time period too. Like now, it's crawling.....
I'm using a public wifi here, but the wifi is fast enough to load other pages except for this website
It must be a Cloudflare issue. I saw this repeated "verify your humanity" on another unrelated website as well. Right now, it seems the issue is resolved - both here on LQ and for that other unrelated site.
business_kid reports that changing your IP address (perhaps using a VPN) did help him work around the problem. That is far less likely to help if the problem is no th host rather than on Clownflaire but is not definitive.
Since yesterday I had messages ranging from the "verify if you are human" to page not displayed because of missing HTML elements and gateway errors because the system behind CF wasn't responding.
I've seen that "verify that you are human" dialog on a few other sites. (In particular brainyquote.com.)
Not a complaint, just a bit more info: I got a couple of "bad gateway" errors yesterday, but they eventually resolved themselves and I was able to connect.
I did find it rather problematic that, if I went to refresh the page, I got that dialog again, which seemed to me to be a bit much, but the page successfully refreshed. For what it's worth, I just refreshed this page and did not get that dialog.
Confirming that there is an ongoing network attack aimed at the site. FWIW, without Cloudflare the site would have been 100% unavailable for the entire duration, vs slow or sometimes not available. We're continuing to investigate.

One might presume that LQ was hit by some kind of DDOS attack and clownfaire intercepted it and protected LQ, but what we all saw was the inelegant fallout of that.
I wish they did better, but they did protect the site.
Still on-going here. Some what frustrating :) . Try to edit a post and you wait. then hit the 'x' to stop. and click the edit button again and it 'may' take or it starts waiting again. Took me two tries to make this post :) .
